ADD – ADHD
ADD/ADHD is perhaps the most commonly diagnosed childhood condition. Some research reports suggest that current methods to diagnose attention disorders would lead to a whopping 24% of the entire U.S. population having the label. These numbers are extremely high and suggest over-diagnosis is present in our culture (though in adults it might be under-diagnosed!).
Neuropsychological Testing, on the other hand, can be used to determine if an individual truly suffers from an attention disorder or if other factors might be influencing his or her attention, such as anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, sensory processing anomalies, visual-spatial weaknesses, or even a learning disability in some cases. In addition, Neuropsychological Testing can pinpoint what attention and executive functions are vulnerable in a particular individual, and whether or not cognitive training, medications, or some other intervention will likely be of benefit. Thereafter, appropriate strategies can be devised to address any specific, underlying processing challenges. You or your loved one can move on and have far fewer worries about ADD or ADHD.
